It was reported today that Zack Snyder is stepping down as director of Justice League, being replaced by Josh Whedon.
Zack told The Hollywood Reporter he is stepping away in order to deal with the sudden death of his daughter, Autumn, who died by suicide in March at age 20.
“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it,” says an emotional Snyder in an interview Monday in his office on the Warner Bros. lot, with Deborah sitting by his side. “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I’ve come to the realization … I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”
“Here’s the thing, I never planned to make this public,” he says. “I thought it would just be in the family, a private matter, our private sorrow that we would deal with. When it became obvious that I need to take a break, I knew there would be narratives created on the internet. They’ll do what they do. The truth is … I’m past caring about that kind of thing now.”
The death of Autumn, Zack’s daughter from his first marriage, to Denise Snyder (in addition to Autumn, he and Deborah have been raising seven kids and step-kids), has brought a new perspective and a new focus for him. “I want the movie to be amazing and I’m a fan, but that all pales pretty quickly in comparison,” he says. “I know the fans are going to be worried about the movie, but there are seven other kids that need me. In the end, it’s just a movie. It’s a great movie. But it’s just a movie.”
As a huge Zack fan, my heart is with him and his family. And I hope media (and comic-book fans in general) learn how to be respectful while reporting this.

According to a recent official report, filming will take place in Westfjords, Iceland in October. The crew will be situated in Djúpavík village, the exact location of the movie set.
It has been confirmed that the hotel is expecting more than 200 crew members during their stay. Furthermore, it looks like a few actors rumored earlier as part of the movie have been confirmed.
According to the website, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jared Leto as The Joker will be part of the filming. Other celebrities include Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, J.K. Simmons, Amber Heard, Jeremy Irons, Willem Dafoe and Julian Lewis Jones.
So far, aside from Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, other characters residing in the Atlantean world have been confirmed. Henry Cavill’s Superman was not mentioned, although Amy Adams is part of filming.
Julian Lewis Jones has been rumored to be Steppenwolf in the movie. Some fans suggested that the actor could be the Green Lantern. However, his role still remains a mystery.
Zack Snyder has casted other well-known actors from Iceland such as Ingvar E. Sigurðsson, Kristbjörg Kjeld, Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir and Salóme Gunnarsdóttir. It was confirmed that the actor will be playing minor roles in the DCEU movie. Justice League will be released on November 17, 2017.
Warner Bros. made its big panel today on San Diego Comic-Con, including the big DC Comics presentation. All directors attended the panel (with Ben Affleck being officially introduced as the solo Batman film’s director), as also the cast of Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and Justice League movies. The Justice league cast and footage wasn’t previously announced so it was a surprise to all attendees. Check below the official trailer – spoiler: it looks amazing!
Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, J. K. Simmons, Amber Heard, and Willem Dafoe and will arrive on November 17, 2017.
Yesterday several news outlet reported an on-set visit offered by Warner Bros., probably to make fans sure that Justice League will be different from Batman v. Superman. As you know, Amy will be back as Lois Lane – in a probably smaller part that she already had on BvS, due the huge cast and storylines to be developed, she wasn’t on set when media visited it for the reports. Checking up all the news that popped up, what do we know so far about the film?
Here’s the official synopsys:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash -— it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, this marks the big screen debut of the Justice League, featuring an all-star lineup: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.
Justice League was first planned as two films, but now its being developed as a single film only. It was retitled to Justice League (previously Justice League: Part One). Forbes has a very detailed description of the film’s plot. The film is set to wrap up in early September, with a November 2017 release date.
