Hair: 2004

Amy Adams is known for her stunning red mane so some could be suprised to learn that her hair is naturally more of a blonde/strawberry blonde color. It wasn’t up until Junebug that Amy decided to keep to a more sharper, vivid color that she adapted from the character. Throughout Amy’s career she has sported a variety of different shades, styles and glamorous hairdos for the red carpet and photocalls. While Amy has mostly kept in the red family of shades, she says she’s open to experiment. “I really like red, but I’m always open to change. I would love to cut my hair and try platinum – Christina Aguilera blond. Harlow blond,” she says. This is a visual archive of Amy’s ever changing locks!

“Here I am, I’m super-energetic, a positive person with blond hair, blue eyes — it’s very easy to make assumptions about my character. And the minute you put red hair on it, it’s suddenly, like, instead of energetic, she’s a firecracker; instead of ditzy, she’s quirky.”

1999 – 2004

At the start of Amy’s career she had her natural color, strawberry blonde. Like in Drop Dead Gorgeous and whilst promoting it. Amy’s hair was long at this time. During 2000-2002 Amy had blonde hair, like in Cruel Intentions 2 or Pyscho Beach Party. The the first event Amy was snapped at in 2002, the premiere for Catch Me If You Can, her hair was brown and medium length. It remained this way until 2003, where Amy soon sported a much blonder tone which she often wore down and wavey at a few events and at the Ashton Kutcher & Endeavor MTV Movie Awards Kick-Off Party she wore it straight. Amy’s hair maintenance was relatively low-key and similiar thoughout these early years.

As we move into 2004, the redhead in Amy finally came out! For Junebug Amy dyed her locks red, and Amy loved the look so much she decided to keep it. While in 2004 she did go back to blonde for a bit, like the premiere for Win a Date with Tad Hamilton.

Amy did return back to red effortlessly in 2005. Once she found her shade she has truly stuck with it! However for film roles she often has a variety of red or blonde shades. For more pictures of Amy’s beautiful, luminous locks check out our gallery!
