Amy Adams is known for her stunning red mane so some could be suprised to learn that her hair is naturally more of a blonde/strawberry blonde color. It wasn't up until
Junebug that Amy decided to keep to a more sharper, vivid color that she adapted from the character. Throughout Amy's career she has sported a variety of different shades, styles and glamorous hairdos for the red carpet and photocalls. While Amy has mostly kept in the red family of shades, she says she's open to experiment. "I really like red, but I'm always open to change. I would love to cut my hair and try platinum - Christina Aguilera blond. Harlow blond," she says. This is a visual archive of Amy's ever changing locks!
"Here I am, I'm super-energetic, a positive person with blond hair, blue eyes — it's very easy to make assumptions about my character. And the minute you put red hair on it, it's suddenly, like, instead of energetic, she's a firecracker; instead of ditzy, she's quirky."
2007 - 2008
Amy began 2007 off with a vivid dark red bang at the 2007 Film Independent's Spirit Awards. Her locks were at shoulder length and a more darker shade of red that she normally sports. As we move on to July we see Amy's hair turn a much lighter, sun colored tone. She wore her hair in pretty curls to the
premiere of Underdog. As 2007 moved on and the promotion for
Enchanted, began Amy had an entirely new style and color. It was very long, and she often wore it straight and sometimes with a Veronica Lake like wave, like at the
Enchanted press conference, where Amy channeled old Hollywood glam with class and ease and pulled the look together with bright red lipstick. She occasionally had her locks in a "princess-y" up-do and for one of her best looks, the side swept natural curled wave, like she dawned for the
Enchanted New York premiere. But all eyes were on Amy at the
Enchanted world premiere as she took center spotlight when she stepped out in a side-swept, curly ponytail.
2008 started out right! Amy's hair was now a light brownish tone and she showed off those locks at her first appearance of the new year at the
New York Film Critics Circle Awards. Her hair length was left to fall mid back and soft layers were cut around the edges of her do for a sexy finish. Adams looked ultra sultry! During the
Fashion Week we got to see the return of the redhead we all know and love as her hair started to gain a more reddish tint again. Cut to
Oscars 08'. Amy and her hairstylist Mark Townsend had a discussion about how to style her hair for the evening. Having seen Amy's dress early, they were inspired by it and wanted to play off of its classic glamour. That night Amy was a divine vision in her Proenza Schouler emerald gown and vintage Hollwood hair, marking her as one of the best dressed stars that evening. As we see the months go by Amy's hair gets slightly more redder with each new event. In April, Amy shocked fans while she was filming her new film
Julie & Julia as she was spotted with a significantly shorter and darker hairstyle for her portrayal of Julie Powell in the film. However, it turned out to be a wig and never the less, Amy manages to look cute as a button - as always!
