According to Box Office Mojo via The Playlist, the untitled David O. Russell film (previously known as American Bullshit) has settled on the official title American Hustle! It’s similar to the original title, but probably a bit easier to market for Sony/Columbia Pictures come release time. The cast is almost too good to be true; Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence Robert De Niro, Louis C.K., Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston and Michael Pena. The plot concerns a financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who are forced to work with an out-of-control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians. In the centre of all this is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner), who is also something of a local hero and mayor of the impoverished district of Camden. American Hustle opens in limited release on December 13th and goes wide on Christmas Day.
Whilst we’re waiting for the second theatrical trailer for Man of Steel, Warner Bros has released the first TV spot for the anticipated super-hero film. It’s much like a shorter version of the first trailer we saw. Still, it’s always nice to get some more hype for the movie. Also, in an interview with Collider promoting 42, Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull said “It’s the Superman movie I’ve always wanted to see. I think the job that Zack Snyder did along with Christopher Nolan – I think that people are going to be very, very excited about the results. The acting, on top of all the incredible action – Kevin Costner playing Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, just the cast, and I think the job Henry Cavill did, people are going to really be excited about it. It was a privilege to be a part of and Warner Brothers does a phenomenal job of bringing these things to life, Batman and Superman, and it really is a privilege for us to be a part of.”
Amy keeps reeling in some of the most interesting projects! According to Deadline, Tim Burton will direct Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams in Big Eyes, the film that Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski scripted. At the same time, The Weinstein Company is closing a deal to fund and distribute. This is a major development on a project that has followed a long development track. The film will be produced by Alexander and Karaszewski and Burton, with Electric City Entertainment’s Lynette Howell. This will be Burton’s next film, and production will begin this summer.
What a fantastic cast this is shaping up to be. Not only is the next David O. Russell (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) film starring Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Louis C.K. – but now Jennifer Lawrence too! According to The Playlist, the actress has reteamed with David O. Russell for his untitled Abscam movie, aka American Bullshit. Penned by Eric Singer, the film will tell the true story of a famed financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams) who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner), who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden. Lawrence will play Bale’s wife (faints), and while there’s still no word yet on C.K.’s part, it’s said to be a “key role.” The film is set to start filming next month for a presumed release date later this year (with this cast, perhaps in time for the awards season?).
The latest issue of People magazine features tons of Oscar nominees in their Academy Awards portfolio – Amy Adams included! She looks stunning as she poses on a ladder trying to cut out a… giraffe (?) from a big bush. Truly a funny but gorgeous picture. She talks about the character that got her the Oscar-nom, Peggy Dodd, in The Master and what made her play the the part. She also reveals the moment she realized she wanted to become an actor: when she saw Olivia Newton-John kiss John Travolta in Grease!
