Amy Adams Talks Suiting Up As Amelia Earhart

Before it was announced which character Amy Adams would play in Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, we guessed Amelia Earhart, to which she replied, “I’m not going to tell,” with a smile on her face.

Of course, a few days later, our guess was confirmed. And Amy Adams was besides herself with grief and remorse, for not having given us the scoop first. Or not. “I know, I know,” she apologized when we reconvened for a night at the Museum of the Moving Image, for a tribute to Ben Stiller. “I just wanted to be respectful of the production.”

So what happens to Amelia Earhart at the Smithsonian, given that the plane she flew on her non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic is part of the exhibit? This time, Adams didn’t mind dishing a bit: “She gets to fly again.”

Adams said she had a a blast on set, mostly because she had trouble keeping her focus since Stiller and Bill Hader did impressions of Museum director Shawn Levy to keep people laughing. But overall, she said, Stiller was “very serious and very professional and very about making the work the best it can be.”

New Project – “Queen of Sheba”

According to Variety, Amy Adams will star in the indie drama Daughter of the Queen of Sheba for producers Susan Cartsonis and Matt Williams (What Women Want)!

The script, written by Karen Croner based on the bio of NPR correspondent Jacki Lyden, centers on how a woman uses her mother’s madness and delusions to empower herself.

Lyden was NPR’s first correspondent on the air in the aftermath of 9/11 and went to Afghanistan soon after the Taliban fell. She’s working on a book about the secret lives of a small group of Iraqi friends and reported on the slaying of her translator by an American soldier.

Doubt to Open AFI Fest

Miramax’s Doubt, John Patrick Shanley’s adaptation of his Broadway play starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep, has been drafted to serve as the opening-night film of AFI Fest 2008, screening Thursday at ArcLight Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome. It replaces The Soloist, which was pulled when its release was postponed until March 13.

The festival will screen an unfinished version of Doubt, which opens theatrically Dec. 12.

“The movie is still being finished, but we were so excited to show Doubt and help our friends at AFI Fest and the American Film Institute at the same time. We couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity,” Miramax president Daniel Battsek said.
