The Guardian: “‘I thought, if I can’t figure this out, I can’t work any more’

The Guardian: “‘I thought, if I can’t figure this out, I can’t work any more’

Earlier this month The Guardian has published a great article with Amy, made right after the Arrival premiere at BFI London Festival. They mentioned the headlines made the day after, about a supposed “wardrobe malfunction”, and the interview started from it. Go to their website for the full piece, but here’s an excerpt:

When we meet in a central London hotel, she is wearing a simple blue dress and oversized matching cardigan which she hugs around her protectively; only her blow-dried hair and full makeup, still fresh from a photo shoot, suggest a life that involves a little more maintenance than that of your average woman.

“Are you going to ask about my dress [from the premiere]?” she asks warily, and her shoulders hunch a little as she retreats a few inches back on the sofa.

No, I was going to mention the gross reaction to it, I say.

“Oh right!” she says, moving forward, shoulders relaxing. “You know, this is something I struggle with because I’m not going to wear turtlenecks for ever. So I hope we can get to a point where a woman can wear a low-cut gown and still have some relevance. It’s disheartening, and having a daughter it’s doubly disheartening, that we’re still here. I was talking about this earlier with my husband: can you imagine a woman saying about a man, ‘Well, you saw how his pants fit – you could clearly see the curve of his bottom! And I’m not supposed to touch it? Come on!’” This subject means so much to her that, despite her wholesome Midwestern nature, she dares to say ‘bottom’ to a stranger – although she winces a little. Normally, her strongest expressions run the gamut from “gee” to “gosh”.

USA Today: Tom Ford’s dark tale ‘Nocturnal Animals’ puts materialism ‘in perspective’

USA Today: Tom Ford’s dark tale ‘Nocturnal Animals’ puts materialism ‘in perspective’

A new article was published this month featuring Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals. It features a nice new portrait with Amy, Tom and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Adams shot her designer-clad scenes in Los Angeles, separately from the Texas carnage, with her character decked out in Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Chanel (though zero Tom Ford designs, as the director has taken pains to separate his fashion and movie careers).

She arrived on the set after the carjacking sequence had been shot, “and you got the sense that the crew had witnessed something. It seemed like they were survivors,” says Adams, today wearing a leather pencil skirt designed by her director, and sandwiched between Gyllenhaal and an immaculately dressed Ford.

Amy Adams Visits “Good Morning America”

Five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams discussed her young daughter’s feelings toward her male co-stars on “Good Morning America” today, especially focusing on little Aviana’s former crush on “Man of Steel” Henry Cavill.

“Oh yeah, oh yeah,” Adams said of her now 6-year-old’s affection for him. “She doesn’t anymore. She makes it very clear. She’s like, ‘Do you remember that funny time when I thought Henry was cute?’ She kind of pinched him on the toosh. She was like a year [old], and Henry was like, ‘She’s your daughter.’”

“She was much cooler about Jeremy [Renner]. She’s much older now,” said Adams. “We got along great. He has a little girl so they ended up playing together. She kind of thinks of him as the dad.”

In the new movie “Arrival,” Adams plays a linguistics professor drafted by the FBI to communicate with aliens.

“I’ve been recruited by the U.S. government to decipher an alien language,” she explained, jokingly adding that being a parent helped her pull off the role of pretending to understand the strange language.

“I got the script and it was so different and so unique and something I really had to be a part of,” she added.

“Arrival” hits theaters tomorrow.
